[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Lain Iwakura
Age: Appears 14, technically in her 30s-ish? Roughly 15 to 20 years presumably pass in the last episode.
Gender: Female
Canon: Serial Experiments Lain
Timeline: Post-series.
Background:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Experiments_Lain
Personality:
Lain's personality is split into three, very distinct personalities.
Lain of the Real World is quiet, and painfully shy. Unassuming, it's easy to completely overlook her as no one special. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends, and seems spacey and awkward when around people. She doesn't know how to connect with people much, especially not her peers who seem far more advanced than she is in many aspects of life. She's a nervous girl, easily manipulated, and fairly antisocial.
Lain of Cyberia is the personality that shows the most emotions. She's all the emotions that Normal Lain doesn't normally show. She gets angry, she yells; she's also extremely friendly and finds it very easy to make friends. She's questioning and curious, and is the personality that gets things done. She won't hesitate to tell you when you're doing something wrong, and usually has several ideas on the fly.
Lastly is Lain of the Wired. This personality is all evil; she cares only for chaos and hurting others. She'll find your deepest, darkest secrets and tell everyone, then sit back and watch your reputation and your life fall to tatters around you. Laughing the entire time.
While Normal Lain is aware of the presences of Evil and Bold Lain, she spends most of her time actively trying to pretend that they aren't there. She just wants to be normal--and having someone take over your body every once in a while is definitely NOT normal. It distresses her whenever she comes around and realizing she's completely missed hours to days of her life with no memory of what happened. Whenever she's told what her Bold or Evil self has done, she's always horrified--mostly because they've done it with HER body, and because the things that they do can make her look bad, being the main or 'host' personality.
Bold Lain, while she regards Normal Lain with a sense of exasperation and disappointment (she wishes Normal Lain would stand up for herself more), she is always coming to her defense. When someone starts asking too many questions about Lain's life, stressing her out, scaring her, or otherwise pushing her into uncomfortable or distressing territory, Bold Lain pushes her way out and takes over in order to save her. She defends Normal Lain against anything that Normal Lain can't handle. When it comes to Evil Lain, there is a lot of hate. She can't stand the things Evil Lain does, especially because Evil Lain shares the same face and gives them a bad name. In fact, the first time the two personalities met, Bold Lain attacked and attempted to strangle Evil Lain.
This brings about another interesting point that, with the three of them now sharing one body, when Evil and Bold Lain fight, it appears to outsiders as though Lain is arguing with herself, using different voices as she does; and when the two fight, it looks like Lain hurting herself.
Evil Lain does not love, nor hate. She's in it for the chaos, although her main goal seems to be to to isolate Lain. She lashes out particularly at anyone who gets close to Lain and trying to drive them off. So long as there is chaos and terror, Evil Lain is happy.
However, thanks to Lain accepting her role as a god, she's managed to get rid of the Evil personality for good, allowing herself more harmony within herself. While Bold is still capable of making appearances, she and Lain get along much better and are content to work as one 'being'. Towards the end of the series lain finally gains confidence in herself and her abilities and grows to mature overall as a person. Despite how painful it is, despite how much she loves her friend Alice, she's able to see herself not as a machine, but as a person, thanks to her. Seeing how much she's destroyed Alice's life, to the point of nearly making her go insane, Lain makes the difficult decision of essentially 'resetting" the world and makes one change: she erases herself from existence. This takes an incredible amount of courage and conviction, and it helps Lain to realize that sometimes she has to do difficult things in order to make things right.
At the end she admits to her fake-father that she loves everyone and is willing to become the god her world needs.
Why is your character a good fit for the setting of Soul Campaign, and what will they do once they are in the game?
Lain, at the time I'm taking her from, is extremely lonely, with a huge capacity for love. While she might be uncertain about helping at first and would prefer to stay as neutral in the war as she is in life, once she starts to make friends again and sees how the people suffer from the witches, she'll be much more motivated to help. This is a chance for her to grow as a person and find what it means to be human again.
List the abilities your character will still have in Soul Campaign:
In SC, she's being turned into a normal human on her way in, so when she arrives, she's just like every average person. She has no special skills, other than being a first-class hacker and highly intelligent. She learns extremely quickly and holds information like a sponge.
List the weaknesses your character will gain (or lose) in Soul Campaign:
Gained weaknesses: loss of Omnipotence, inability to rewrite history/memories.
Lost: She won't be so terribly alone and unable to talk to anyone which means she'll be able to gain friends again. I'm not sure if this will count, but she'll also have lost her memories of the last time she was here.
[ WEAPON ] or [ MEISTER ]
Weapon.
Soul Description:
-Observant
-Curious
-Loving
-Loyal
-Intelligent
-Resourceful
It's an off-white color that becomes a bit gray if Bold is in charge.
(Weapon Form)
While a computer would be the obvious choice, and is what she was the last time she was in Death City, this time she's going to be something different. Given her godly status now, she's going to turn into a pair of serrated halos, connected by a chain (one to represent 'Lain' and the other to represent 'Bold').
For a power, the halos become charged with electricity.
